None of us can quite believe that it is already October! This year is going so exceptionally well, and we're having such a blast in the Lounge that the year is going by in a blink of an eye! Just a couple of quick announcements to kick off October: Frankie was unable to update the class website last week due to illness.
(Frankie says: "My sincerest apologies, but I had a fever of 101 and am still trying to get "out from under" the days I fell behind. Website should be all ready to go now, though!")
~ The next Coffee Chat will be Friday, 10/7 in our classroom at 8:15.
~ Conferences are coming!! October 11 - 14th. All classes will have early dismissal at 2 pm. Contact Jamie or Frankie to sign up times.
~ Day of the Dead is October 28th.
~ Lounge Lizards will be hosting the teacher luncheon on Day of the Dead. Our theme is Latin/Mexican. More details to come!!!

Past Announcements:
Our second week of class went "Lizardly"! Students are working incredibly hard on their Tribe Lizard Projects, which will be DUE on Thursday, September 8th! It has been remarkable to watch them working collaboratively, using their creativity, and really learning to excel in their Tribe roles! Additionally, each student completed their Multiple Intelligences Learning Style Quiz, and in the upcoming weeks will use this information to help identify their own areas of strength, and targeted areas for growth over the course of the year. We have completed Math Assessments, and will be placing students into their math classes today. They will begin math next week -- Please Watch for Announcements regarding math, and weekly homework assignments, as well!
We went on our first hike of the year, with Rashid on Thursday! The Lizards did incredibly well (considering the heat!!!), and we used the land and the gorgeous vista as a writing activity as well. Your student imagined what the land might have looked like 100 years ago, or what it might look like 100 years in the future. This interaction between academics and nature is one of the features that makes ADS such a remarkable place to teach! Ask your child to share what he/she wrote -- you might be surprised at the depth of their creativity!
In the next two weeks, we will continue our transition into more structured academics, with the start of Math, a review of the Civil War in PBL, and starting our first "Dectective File" on Anton Checkov's classic short story, "The Bet." Homework will begin to increase, and our planners will begin to become even more important as a means to stay organized!
Thanks again to everyone for entrusting us with your "Lizard"! Our community is really coming together, and we're honoured to be a part of the process!
